Caws Cenarth, Carmarthenshire, Wales
Nootes: Rich, buttery and sweet.
‘Perl Las’, which means ‘Blue Pearl’ in English, was created by Carwyn Adams, following the appearance of a delicious blue vein in a traditional Caerffili.
From the producers of Perl Wen, Golden Cenarth & Cenarth Brie, the good people at Caws Cenarth have come up with another little gem – Perl Las.
Think Welsh Stilton, but only in appearance. The taste is a little saltier than a traditional Stilton and the veining is certainly more prolific throughout. Its texture is a lot firmer than Stilton (which can be very crumbly) making Perl Las a lot more manageable to handle.
Voted “Best Blue & Home International Winner” at the International Cheese Awards in Nantwich, we certainly recommend this as an alternative to Stilton if you want to showcase the best of what Wales can produce!
